Kenneth “Ken” L. Maddox, 95, of Grand Island, NE passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Falls City Nursing and Rehab in Falls City, NE.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Third City Christian Church, Grand Island, NE with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Interment will be in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-6 PM at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island, NE.

Ken was born on July 7, 1923 in the Palmer, NE area to Stanley & Ethelyn (Clark) Maddox. He grew up in the Palmer and Grand Island, NE areas. He received his education from Grand Island Senior High and graduated in 1941.

Ken enlisted in the Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO on Jan. 26, 1945 during WWII. He served in the Philippines as a Tech 5 Medical Airman. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 1, 1946 at Camp Stoneman, CA. He was honored to attend one of the WWII Honor Flights. On Feb. 7, 2019 he received a Quilt of Valor from Freedom Quilters of Nebraska in Beatrice, NE which is part of the Quilts of Valor Foundation for his service to our country.

Ken was self-employed for a portion of his life and then later went to work as a salesman for American Greetings retiring after 30 years in July 1985.

He enjoyed working with his hands and being outside completing tasks such mowing and moving snow. He took pleasure in being able to volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, the VA Hospital, and with the Highway Patrol. Ken also liked spending time with his friends at the Grand Generation Center in Grand Island.

He was member of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

He married Viola Fitchhorn in 1942, they were later divorced.

On Nov. 30, 1974 he married Glennys Boring in Central City, NE.

Ken is survived by his son, Alan Maddox, of Shawnee, KS, daughter, Judy Spivey (Paul), of Asheville, NC, Daughter-In-Law Sherry Maddox, of Falls City, stepsons; Warren Dale Boring (Jo) of Desert Hot Spring, CA, Lonnie Boring (Cheryl) of Brule, NE, and stepdaughters; Audrey Dethlefs (Don) of Brule, NE, Correne McEntee of Ogallala, NE, and Dixie Patterson of Huron, South Dakota. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley & Ethelyn Maddox, sister, Ardus Marshall, brother, Gerald Maddox, wife, Glennys Maddox, son, Marshall Maddox, grandson, Stanley Maddox, grandson Jim Boring, and grandson, Robbie McEntee.
