Donald W. Carpenter, 91, of Waterloo, formerly of Oelwein, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Ravenwood Specialty Care.

He was born June 2, 1927, in West Concord, Minnesota, son of Phillip Frank and Eva Louise Dawson Carpenter. He married Louise on February 28, 1948; they later divorced. He married Marge McTagert June 14, 1953; they later divorced. He married Mary Schmitz November 23, 1983; she preceded him in death. Then Donald met Phyllis Bell, who has been his significant other for many years.

Donald served in the United States Army During World War II.

Donald worked for several trucking companies in the Waterloo area. After retirement, he transported RV's and trailers around the country. Donald enjoyed working, farming, being outdoors, and his animals.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (Mike) Benda of Garden Grove; one step daughter, Mary Jane Bennett of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Edward (Carrie) Benda, Lacey (Daniel) Paine, Becky (Justin) Savage, and Rick (Leslie) Benda; 11 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Kelsey, Sidney, Avery, Oliver, Cooper, Clay, Cole, Carly, Riley, and Paisley; one brother, Lowell (Lorraine) Carpenter of Minnesota; and significant other, Phyllis Bell of Oelwein.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; two step daughters, Audrey Donaldson and Dorothy Simpson; one step son, James Harlan; and two sisters, Helen Carpenter and Beth Carpenter.
