She was born Dec. 7, 1957, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Willa Mae Mayes and Oscar Lightsey. She graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Carl Sandburg College. Afterward she worked as a caregiver.
She is survived by her significant other, Wayne Curry; her children, Prentice Lightsey, Brandon Lightsey, Janna Agbodza-Lightsey, Angie King, Tobi Franklin and Lareatha Carter; two sisters, Joyce Lightsey and Delnita Harps; one brother, Carry Harps; 20 grandchildren, Prosper, Laquala, Chloe, Ty'reke, Remy, Brooklyn, Ladon, Kyren, Emma, Olivia, Julissa, Marissa, Brandon, Makayla, Leatha, Lillee, Lorenz, Javius, Preston and Quintin; one niece, Chivon Carter; one nephew, George Carter and a host of cousins, friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin, who died March 2, 2016.
Janet Franklin loved to cook and sew clothing. She had a strong ego, she loved and raised us all and loved the Lord, and she will truly be missed. Thanks for all your doings on Earth and touching the lives of so many.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Masonic Lodge, 838 W. Berrien St., Galesburg.
