Frances Inez Smith Ford, “Mumma” to so many, went to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 11, 2019.

Frances was born in Clanton, Alabama on May 31, 1924 to Alice Inez Higgins Smith and Milton Charles Smith.

She graduated Valedictorian of Chilton County High School in Clanton, Alabama in 1942, and married Ralph Horton Ford on March 8, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama.

They made their home in Oak Ridge for most of their lives.

She retired from the University of Tennessee Records Office.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ralph Ford, Jr.; her brother-in-law Jim McCary, sisters-in-law Dorothy Ford Franklin, Madeline Ford Baldasano, and Jackie Ford Ward.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 75 years, Ralph Ford; her sister, Annie Cordelia McCary of Shalimar, Florida; her daughters Barbara Moon of Dacula, Georgia, Millie (& Hugh) Roberts of Malakoff, Texas, and Jackie Harris of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and by her daughter-in-love, Carolyn Ford of Karns, 19 grand children, 39 great grand children, and 10 great-great grand children.

Mumma will be missed by all.

She is most remembered for her love of cooking, her freezer filled with homemade cookies, and her acts of love to her friends and family. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, though unable to attend for many years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 pm at Robertsville Baptist Church located at 251 Robertsville Road in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on Wednesday, February 13 with the service immediately following at 7 pm.

The burial will be on Thursday, February 14 at 12 pm at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Virginia.
