News was received here Tuesday from Orlando of the death of Rev. John Brandon Ley, one of the leaders in the Methodist Church in Florida, and a former popular pastor of St. James Church, Palatka. Dr. Ley was stationed here during his pastorate that the present Methodist Church was built. Being a practical man he personally assisted in its construction. He was well and favorably known by the pioneer citizens of Palatka county, and his death is deplored by hosts of friends throughout the State. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and one son, and by two brothers, Rev. Ed. F. Ley, former presiding elder of this district, but now stationed at Fort Meade, and Rev. E. L. Ley, of the Key West Methodist Church. (Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 14 Dec 1917.)
