SHREVEPORT, LA – A Celebration of Life Service for Dawn Elizabeth Amison Whittington, 47, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at The Church at Red River, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Pastor Troy Parker. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA.

Dawn was born October 12, 1971, in Aurora, CO to Peggy Salter Amison and Ray Elwin Amison and went to be with her Lord and Savior February 12, 2019, in Shreveport, LA with her loving family at her side. Dawn was a very devoted mother and wife. She is adored by many family and loyal friends because of her genuine love and natural ability to understand and care for others. Her honest love for others defined her. The impact of her life is endless. Dawn’s laugh and infectious smile beamed brightly in every room, every circumstance, and in so many peoples’ lives.

Dawn was a graduate of Crockett High School, Crockett, TX. She received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Northwestern State University and went on to specialize in Wound Care at M. D. Anderson, Houston, TX where she received her certification in Wound Care. She started the Inpatient Wound Care Program at the Overton Brooks VA Hospital, Shreveport, LA in 2004, where she received multiple distinctions of Best Practice in wound care.

Preceding Dawn in death was her father-in-law, Don Whittington. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted and loving husband, John Whittington of Shreveport, LA; two sons, Carter Hines and Cameron Hines of Shreveport, LA; two step-sons, Ayden Whittington and Logan Whittington of Brandon, MS; her parents, Peggy and Ray Amison of Shreveport, LA; sister, Charlotte Jones and husband Gregory of Minden, LA; four brothers, Gary Amison and wife Tonya of Ennis, TX; Shawn Amison and wife Shell of Ennis, TX; Ricky Amison and wife Fathia of Dubai; and Eric Amison and wife Gail of Shreveport, LA; very special niece, Haylie Amison; loving mother-in-law, Betty Whittington of Shreveport, LA; sister-in-law, Jane Mayfield and husband Steve of Bossier City, LA; and many more nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at CHIPSA Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico, Dr. Scott Boniol, Pam Dunagin and staff at Christus Cancer Treatment Center, Michelle Lane, Rob Miskowski and staff at Christus Hospice Care, and a special thank you for all the love and support given by Dawn’s VA work family.

Honoring Dawn as pallbearers will be Gary Amison, Shawn Amison, Mike Fiser, Greg Jones, Steve Mayfield, and Robert Treese.
