Hays -- Lanita Marie Smith, 41, Hays, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007.

Mrs. Smith was born Lanita Marie Karst on Aug. 6, 1966, in Hays, to Albert and Doris. She was a registered nurse.

She married Lance on April 29, 1989, in Hays.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Soroptomist International, Wild West Festival, American Organization of Executive Nurses and the Kansas Organization of Nurse Leaders.

She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Steven; and her mother-in-law, Rose Holman.

Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Ashley and Sierra, both of the home; three brothers, Thomas and wife Mary of Hays, Mark and wife Shannon of Victoria and Douglas of Lucas; four sisters, Dianne Schmidt and husband Gene of Great Bend, Lois Herrman and husband Patrick of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Maryln Schumacher and husband Larry of Great Bend and Patricia of Hays; her mother of Hays; her father-in-law, Eldon Smith , of Glenwood, Iowa; her stepfather-in-law, Eddie Holman, of Salina; six nieces; and five nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 20th and Main. Burial will be in Mount Allen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. A Lutheran prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be made to an education fund for the children.
