Wilbur Coleman was the son of John Coleman of Long Lake, Minnesota. The following was submitted by: Roger Norland:

Silden(Selden); John A., Jr.; Madison W.; Addison N. and Wilbur M. Coleman. The first four all enlisted together in the 3rd Minnesota Infantry, Company A.
Wilbur was kept home due to his age being 16 per the article. However, he must have pressured his father, because just a few months later he was suddenly 18 and joined the 2nd Company of Minnesota Sharpshooters.
