A Memorial Service for Mr. Horton will be held at 1 P.M. Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Kenneth Culver, pastor of Warren Community Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment will be private. A visitation for Mr. Horton will be from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Dennis was born July 27, 1951 in Tupelo, Mississippi, the son of Luther Kendrick Horton and Marion Tutor Horton. He received his bachelor’s degree from Memphis State University and was employed as a nurse at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, where he was respected by his peers and coworkers. He was a resident of Somerville and was a member of Warren Community Church. Dennis enjoyed working with his hands, on the land and cars. He enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley’ music, loved his pets and was a great neighbor and friend who was a kind and loving person.
Mr. Horton is survived by his daughter, Anna Kate “Katie” Horton of Oakland, TN; his son, Walter “Luke” Horton of Oakland, TN; and his sister, Rhonda Porter (Arlis) of Tupelo, MS.
The family requests that memorials be directed to American Diabetes Association, 5587 Clipper Park Road, Baltimore, MD 21211 or the Humane Society, 935 Farm Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
