William, 93 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Independence Village Assisted Living Facility of Grand Ledge. Bill was the son of Horton and Ethel (Archbold) Case, born at his grandmother’s home in Vernon Township and Bill would remain in the Clare area for all of his life.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Hileman on August 2, 1946 and the couple shared seventy years of marriage until Marjorie’s passing in November of 2016. Bill was a proud thirty-five year employee of Dow Chemical Company, having retired in 1982 as a plant manager overseeing the engineering department.

Bill was also a proud veteran of the US Army and served in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII; following his Active Service Bill served in the Army Reserves for 20 years, retiring in 1976 as a Chief Warrant Officer.

In his younger years, Bill greatly enjoyed giving back to community as a key influence in building the Little League fields and program in Clare; contributing as a local Boy Scout leader and serving on the Clare School District Board. Bill was also hugely instrumental in founding Mid Michigan Community College and served on their board of directors for eighteen years. He was an active servant in the Methodist Church, and had many other interest and hobbies that included spending summers at Glen Lake and winters in Ruskin, FL., hunting at the family “Wechipin” hunt camp, playing and composing his own music with friends, and especially golfing. Those that knew Bill will surely agree that he was clearly the life of the party, and he will be dearly missed by his family.

Bill is survived by his three daughters Patricia (Richard) Greene of Charlotte, MI., Penny (Paul) Wisinski of Madison, WI., and Nancy (Tom) Walder of Grand Rapids, MI., his nine grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister Betty Nash of Rochester, MN. and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, his parents Horton and Ethel Case, his brother Donald Case, and one great-grandson.

A funeral service in honor of Bill took place on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Clare United Methodist Church with Pastor John Kasper officiating. Burial was at the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare.

Memorial contributions in honor of Bill may be directed toward Mid Michigan College for a scholarship fund yet to be determined.
