Edmund was a Code Talker in World War I. He served from 22 July 1918 to 15 January 1919 in the 61st Battalion Company. The Veterans Administration records indicate a headstone was shipped to his burial place at Messiah Congregational Cemetery, McLaughlin.
Edmund was the son of Stanton (Oranota) and Flora Many Deeds. On 18 August 1917 he married Mary Jane High Eagle. Their children: Mary Melda (1918), Lloyd (1923), Edmund (1921), Lenore (1930), Robert (1934).
