Louis Christian Malone, long time resident of the Gladstone, Neb., vicinity, died at the Silver Age rest home in Fairbury, Neb., where he had made his home the past year, on Jan. 9, 1962, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 5 days.
The son of John and Louisa Malone, he was born July 4, 1873 in LaSalle, Ill., where he was baptized in infancy. When Louis was a small boy, the family moved to a farm north of Gladstone, and then sometime later to Orleans, Neb. Louis still in his young manhood, returned to Gladstone. He became a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church in 1889 and was confirmed there.
On Oct. 4, 1896 he married Bertha Coopich at Zion Evangelical and Reformed church and to them two sons, Herbert and Ervin were born. They celebrated their golden anniversary on Oct. 4, 1946 and in December of that year his wife preceded him in death.
Mr. Malone was occupied in farming most of his life, living near Helvey, then three miles south of Gladstone, and later retiring and residing in Gladstone. A few years after retiring he went ot live with his son, Herbert, and the past year lived in Fairbury.
Preceding him in death were his wife, two sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are two sons, Herbert of Gladstone and Ervin; four brothers, Theodore of Atlanta, Otto of Orleans, Charles of Oxford and Herman of Alma; grandchildren, Marvin Malone of Storrs, Conn., Richard Malone of Payette, Idaho and Judy and Joyce Malone of Jerome, Idaho, and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Jan. 12 in Zion United church of Christ east of Gladstone with the pastor, Rev. Eugene Walther, officiating. Mrs. Richard Henning and Mrs. Blaine Huss sang a duet and Miss Christine Johnson was organist. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Elmer Henkel, Louis Meyer, Raymond Junker, Elmer Kapke, Frank Biederman and Harley Gaston.
