John Howard Joy, Sr., 65 of Morris died in his home on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. He was born on September 22, 1949 to Robert Joy Sr. and Alice Foote; he was surrounded by a large and loving family. He served in the Army in both rocketry and supply and achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant. He always had a passion for raising animals and surrounding himself in the land around him.
John was a good man, filled with love he would show whether in rides to strangers, mentoring struggling youths or his unending well of devotion given when in love with someone. The desire he had for justice burned so brightly it sometimes scalded even him. These are traits that his loved ones are most proud of. He did the best that he could to raise his son to be a good man with what he had and he never stopped trying to guide and teach.
John is survived by children Reannon, Emily and John, and grandchildren Jessica, Connor, Austin, Evangeline, Kenley and Audrey. A short military memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris. A reception will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Rectory, Main Street, Morris, NY. Please be welcome to show and tell your stories and remembrances no matter how you find god or spirituality. Arrangements are by Johnston Funeral Home Morris.
