Former Jackson Hole resident Dean DeVeny died unexpectedly Feb. 16 at home in Freedom. His family provided the following.

Dean was born Dec. 25, 1960, to Delmar and Inez DeVeny in Wheatland. The family moved to Jackson Hole, where Dean graduated from high school in 1979. He attended Northwest Wyoming College and returned to Jackson, where he worked for the Snake River Ranch.

He married Janette Stephenson, the girl of his dreams, on Aug. 16, 1985. He then started a career in construction at Buffalo Valley Construction. Dean, Janette and their family moved to Star Valley in 2002.

Dean enjoyed the cowboy life and participated in rodeo events. He loved riding horseback into the Wyoming Rocky Mountains. He guided family and friends hunting for big game and also led pack trips into the backcountry.

Dean was not only a Cub Scout leader but also a father and leader to all children around him. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who who knew him.

Dean is survived by his father, Delmar DeVeny; his wife, Janette DeVeny; his children, JD (Nicole Robison) DeVeny, Jennifer (Jeremiah) Jensen, Justin DeVeny, Jameson DeVeny; and his grandchildren, Kenadee Jensen and Riley DeVeny.

A memorial service was held Feb. 22 at Schwab Funeral Chapel in Thayne. Bishop Martel Brower officiated.
