1927 - 2015 Russell Leonard Carlson passed away on May 18, 2015. Born on May 13, 1927, to the late Elsa and Gustav Carlson of West Harford, CT. Devoted husband, proud father and loving brother of the late Arnold Carlson. He will be missed by all who knew him. Russell was a World War II veteran serving in the US Navy Pilot program. He graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in Industrial Engineering where he was president of his fraternity. During his career as a design engineer for Pratt & Whitney Aeronautics he worked on the design of the RL-10 rocket, the SR-71; the fastest airplane to date, and the F-15 and F-16. When Russ retired in 1988, he and Becky summered at the family cottage 'Elmhestra' in Coventry, CT, where he enjoyed family gatherings, pancake breakfasts and fireside evenings. He also maintained lifelong friendships with his scouting and childhood friends. He led an active life, which included tennis, golf and sailing. In his later years Russ enjoyed the fellowship of his North Palm Beach carving group and being an active bridge player. Russell is survived by his wife of 54 years Rebecca Schoppee; his son Daniel (Janet), daughters Evelyn Dallanegra (Todd) and Lauralyn Carlson (Jack Greenwood); grandchildren Matthew, Krysten and David Dallanegra, and his brothers Paul and Gordon Carlson. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
