Irvine Wallace “Ace” Bailey

Professional Hockey Player. Born in Bracebridge, Canada, he was a right wing ice hockey player for eight seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1926 to 1933. Over his career he played in 313 regular games, had 82 assists, totaled 111 goals and scored 193 points. He also appeared in 21 playoff games with 4 assists, totaled 3 goals and scored 7 points. After retiring, he worked as a timekeeper at the Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens, 1938 to 1984. Bailey's number 6 jersey was the first ever to be retired by an NHL team, and is one of only two to have been permanently retired by the Maple Leafs. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975 and died at age 88 in Toronto, Canada.
