HAROLD MONTENO LEONARD, 86, of Washta, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 in the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 12th, at the Washta United Methodist Church in Washta, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa.

Monteno was born on December 23, 1932 in Ida County, Iowa to H. Arnold & Marvel (Filer) Leonard. He attended Douglas Country School through the 8th grade and graduated from Quimby High School in 1951. He was married to Beverly Zupp on July 21, 1951 at the Methodist Parsonage in Quimby, Iowa.

Monteno had farmed most of his life and enjoyed raising livestock on the family farm. He had also been an insurance salesman and built storage bins. He had resided all his life on the Leonard family Century Farm, south of Quimby purchased by his grandparents in 1906.

He was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church, longtime member of Farm Bureau of which he had served as President for three years, member of Quimby Town & Country Club, Progressive Cattle Company for 12 years, served on the Willow School Board for several years.

Monteno enjoyed hunting and one of his proudest accomplishments was harvesting a Boone & Crockett record whitetail that is now a member of the Iowa Whitetail Hall of Fame. He enjoyed going to auctions, having a good cup of coffee with his friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Monteno had recently celebrated his 43rd year of sobriety on February 8th. He was an active member in A.A. and sponsored many individuals over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Zane Leonard, a daughter Gina Edwards, two brothers Amos and Wayne Leonard.

He is survived by his wife Beverly; four children: Monica, Tina, Grant, and Barry; grandchildren: Nicole, Zanniell, Luke, Bryce, Ryan, Brooke, Brandy, Rylee; great grandchildren: Christian, Jeremiah and Glorya; Heaven, Zed, Zariah, and Abiah; Colton and Tucker; Rilynn; two great great grandchildren: Nevaeh and Coleson.
