March 11, 1939 - February 1, 2019

Vincent Thomas Gabby, 79, of Grand Forks, ND died on February 1, 2019 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley, MN with the Pastor Chris Conger officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, MN.
Vincent was born on March 11, 1939 in Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Verone (Holstad) Gabby. In 1954 the family moved to Bagley, MN and he graduated from Bagley High School in 1957. He went on to attend the University of North Dakota. He had fond memories of playing the drums in the UND concert band, marching band and pep band. While a student the concert band did a performance tour of North Dakota. He remembered clearly how cold it was playing in the old hockey “barn” and during drills and formations at football games for the marching and pep bands. At UND he was a member of Alpha Beta Psi, an honorary accounting society. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. After college he started his professional career as an internal revenue agent for the Internal Revenue Service in Fargo, ND. Vince briefly worked in Fargo and Jamestown, ND. In 1965 he was transferred to the Grand Forks office, where he remained until his retirement. From 1962 to 1968 he was a member of the US Army and Air Force Reserve. Vince spent his entire professional career with the IRS and never stopped taking special tax courses during his employment. During his long career he received various performance and special achievement awards. He retired in April 1994, after 33 years of dedicated service.
Vince was a strong supporter and avid fan of the UND women’s basketball and its outstanding student athletes and of the UND Pride of the North Marching Band. Vince established The Vincent T. Gabby Athletic Endowment within the UND Foundation where contributions can be made to support UND Women’s Basketball Program.
Vince spent his summers at Waskish, MN on the shore of Upper Red Lake where he had a cabin. He enjoyed traveling, coin collecting, reading, attending sporting events (especially UND basketball), hunting, fishing, birding, water skiing and spending time with family and friends.
Vince is survived by his 2 sisters, Louise Fultz of Bagley, MN and Laurel Rager of Midland, Ohio; 7 nephews, Bryan Fultz, Curt Fultz, Dean Fultz, Jeff Fultz, Jason Fultz, Jon Dixon and Joe Dixon; and several great nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Verone Gabby.
