Don Porter, 68 years of age of Salmon, Idaho passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, Montana.
Services will be held at a later date.
Jessie Donald Porter was born on June 24, 1941 in Los Angeles, California, one of six children born to Jack and Bessie (Mann) Porter. The family moved to Salmon when he was just two years old.
He graduated with the Class of 1960 from the Salmon High School.
He worked as a mechanic in Salmon, New Mexico and California. He played the guitar and sang county music. He chose to marry Donna Brown in 1963, instead of going to Nashville to become a singer. They had six children: Lawna, Jack, Loretta, Mike, Bessie and Danny. They made their home in Salmon for many years. On October 2, 1976, Don married Karen Seitzinger and in the early 1980’s they moved to New Mexico. They returned to Salmon in 1993 and Karen passed away on December 11, 1999.
He was a very talented artist, and could draw anything. He enjoyed woodworking, sign making, fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren, camping, picnics and backyard barbeques.
Survived by Daughters: Lawna & Jim Kolterman Fairbault, Minnesota, Loretta & Aaron Myers Elk Bend, Idaho and Bessie & Mark Gregory of Eugene, Oregon, Sons: Mike Porter of Fairbault Minnesota and Danny Lord of Salt Lake City, Utah, thirteen grandchildren: Bobby Spath Fairbault, Minnesota, Imelda Orozco Visalia, California, Donna Hernandez Salmon, Idaho, Matthew & Michelle Myers of Elk Bend, Idaho, Selina, Ian and Lilli Gregory of Eugene, Oregon, Jorine Porter Port Angeles, Washington, Macala Porter Port Angeles, Washington, Lora Lee Porter Fairbault, Minnesota, Merikta Porter Salmon, Idaho, granddaughter Lord of Salt Lake City, Utah, one great grandson Ian Orozco (and one on the way), Visalia, California, sister Millie Porter of Idaho Falls, Idaho, brothers: Larry & Mary Porter of Coos Bay, Oregon, Bill Porter of Coos Bay, Oregon and Elmer & Beverly Porter Boise, Idaho, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, wife’s Karen Porter and Donna (Brown-Daly) Porter, son Jack Porter and brother Vern Porter.
