Samuel was born about 1818. He was probably the son of William Abbott and Amy Jackson of Union/Aura, Gloucester Co., NJ, and is tentatively linked as such to their memorials. This is based on the following:
1) Several of his descendants have autosomal DNA matches with descendants of Amy Jackson Abbott's sisters;
2) He named his first child Amy;
3) In 1850, he resided in Franklin Twp., Gloucester Co., where Union/Aura was then located (it is in present-day Elk Twp., Gloucester Co.); and
4) His remains were returned to Union/Aura for interment in the burial ground of the Methodist church established by the Jackson and Abbott families (and most likely the burial place of William and Amy Jackson Abbott).
Samuel married Eliza Westcott, who was remarried to William Bates very soon after Samuel's death.
