Janis Dakin (Hockett) Brown passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on January 20, 2019. Born on June 14, 1918 to Horace Dakin Hockett and Edna (Guyon) Hockett in New Smyrna, FL she moved to Jacksonville in 1927. She attended Brentwood Elementary School, Kirby Smith Junior High School, and graduated from Andrew Jackson Sr. High School in 1936.

She was active in the Girl Scouts and later became a Leader and Camp Counselor. She was also active with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. She was a charter Member of the duPont HS Band Boosters, Mrs. Brown was also a member of the Englewood Home Makers Club (50+ yrs), Jacksonville Genealogy and Southern Genealogy Societies.

Her husband, Harmon James Brown (1917-1985), son, Bruce Alan Brown (1952-2005), and son-in-law, John Francis Losco (2014), predeceased her. Her son, Robert David Brown, and his wife, Carolyn Brown, daughter, Barbara Janis (Brown) Losco and daughter-in-law, Valerie Lane Brown, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews survived her. Private burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville during January 2019. George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, Southside, 4240 University Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32216, served the family, and made her original obituary available online, Her original obituary was published in the Florida Times-Union on January 27, 2019.
