Funeral services for James Gordon Stewart will be conducted at White's chapel Friday at 10 a. m., Rev. Ed Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood cemetery.
Stewart, whose death by drowning was reported yesterday, was well known in sports circles here and played end for three years with the Seahawks. He was a former Santa Cruz high school team football star, and had for several summers worked as a life guard at the plunge.
He was a native of Klamath Falls, Ore., and came to Santa Cruz at an early age. Two years ago he was transferred by the telephone company to Phillipsville, where he was engaged on the long distance cable being laid from Eureka to Santa Rosa.
Surviving him are his widow, Barbara Jean Stewart of Phillipsville, formerly Barbara Jean Thompson of Santa Cruz; his two children, Jimmie and Cathy Stewart; his mother, Mrs. Ethelyn Dunlap of Greenfield; his brother, Corporal Drennan Stewart of Castle air base, Merced; two sisters, Mona Stewart of San Diego and Mrs. Joan Horstman of San Jose, and various aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
