Dr. Joseph Richard (Dick) Mansfield went to be with his Lord Jesus on February 9, 2019, in Carlsbad, NM. He was born in 1924 in El Paso, Texas, to William Edward Mansfield and Florrie Aline Blythe Mansfield. Dr. Mansfield graduated from high school in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1940. He attended Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, before serving his country in World War II in the United States Army. Upon returning from the war, with an honorable discharge in 1946, he resumed his education at the University of Southern California and completed college at Texas School of Mines in El Paso. In 1947, Dick married Marjorie Fern Thomas, his wife of 55 years. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas at Galveston in June of 1953. Dick and Marjorie moved to Carlsbad in 1954, where he practiced general surgery, until his retirement. Dick loved golfing, hunting, fishing, and boating with his family and friends. He was an avid reader and bird watcher & loved his and everyone else's pets. He is survived by his four daughters Susan Mansfield Bennett, Marilyn Mansfield Graham, Joanie Mansfield McCutcheon, and Marjorie J. Mansfield, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, his daughter, Marjorie Ann Mansfield, and his parents.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Monday, February 11, 2019 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Carlsbad Cemetery with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
