Robert W. Ebener, 92 formerly of Oglesby died at 10:17 a.m. February 7, 2019 in the Illinois Veteran's Home at LaSalle.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby with a 10 a.m. Mass in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. The Very Rev. Gary Blake will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery, LaSalle with military honors conducted by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veteran's Memorial Group.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral chapel with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. The Oglesby American Legion will meet in the funeral at 5 p.m.
Bob was born September 10, 1926 in Oglesby to Louis and Adele (Immel) Ebener. He married Anne Mersch December 14, 1946 in St. Patrick's Church, LaSalle. She died April 4, 2013.
Bob was furniture sales manager at Clydesdale Furniture and later at Tri-City Furniture. He was a member of Holy Family Church and the Holy Name Society, LaSalle Rotary, Oglesby American Legion, Oglesby Knights of Columbus, Holy Family School Club and Cedar Point Sportsman's Club. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Oglesby Elks and served on the Oglesby Planning Commission. He was also very active in many civic fund-raisers and community charities for Oglesby.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman traveling many places including Colorado, Alaska and Canada.
He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII.
He is survived by 5 sons; Jim (Melissa) Ebener of Orange Park, FL, Dan (De) Ebener of Davenport, IA, Josh (Shelley) Ebener of Chatham, Bill (Lisa) Ebener of Oglesby and Steve Ebener of Tonica, 5 daughters; Pat (Bill) Schneider of Jacksonville, Fl, Barbara (Steve) Pabian of Oglesby, MaryBeth (Greg) Foemmel of Oglesby, Teresa Ebener-Yusem of Boca Raton, FL and Carol (John) Happ of Peru, 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a brother Richard Ebener of Tallahassee, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter Martha March 7, 1967 2 grandchildren and 3 brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Holy Family School Endowment Fund.
