Mr. Townsend was a truck driver for 35 years and retired from Caldwell Freight Lines and he attended Welcome Home Baptist Church in Lenoir. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who deeply loved his family. He enjoyed watching and going to sporting events and his favorite team was the Carolina Tar Heels.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas, Wilburn Eugene “Gene”, James and Ronnie Townsend; and sisters, Ethel Crisp and Frances Rash.
Surviving Mr. Townsend are his wife of 45 years, Wanda Hatley Townsend, of the home; a daughter, Crystal Moody and husband Jody of Lenoir; grandchildren, Tyler Moody and his girlfriend, Olivia Tackett and Dustin Moody, both of Lenoir; special grandchildren, Ella and Charlie Mackie, both of Granite Falls and Alissa Wooten of Lenoir.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Welcome Home Baptist Church, 2018 Union Grove Rd., Lenoir, conducted by Pastors Derick Lingerfelt and Mark Moody.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
