Mary Catherine Steinriede Grower, 92, of Madison, passed away on March 11 at St. Catherine’s Village. She was born December 5, 1923, to the late William Steinriede and Katie McGraw Steineriede in Yazoo City, Mississippi. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women (MUW) where she met the late John Marshall Grower while he was attending Mississippi State. They were introduced over a card game of Bridge, and were married in 1945.
Mary Catherine was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She and her husband of 65 years loved to travel, and they toured the world together. She and her husband were founding parishioners of St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson, and in 1975, were appointed by Pope Paul VI to establish the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in Mississippi.
Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, John, and two children: Patrick Grower and Janet Grower Subowicz. She is survived by her sister Margaret; four children: Katie, John, Judy and Michael: ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
