In 1942, Julia married Raymond Simpson, Jr., also from Dallas. They were happily married for 60 years. After their honeymoon in Mexico, Raymond enlisted in the United States Air Force. Raymond was stationed in San Antonio, so Julia left her job and moved to join her husband. In time, Ray was transferred to Bergstrom AFB in Austin. Julia went to work at the State Capitol building. At the end of World War II, they returned to Dallas. They both worked until Ray’s employment took him back to San Antonio, where they moved in 1951. Julia went to work in the oil office for Skinner Corporation for 26 years. She was a member of the Desk and Derrick Club, an organization for professional women in the oil and gas industry.
Julia and Ray were members of Central Christian Church, where she sang in the choir for 40 years. They were members of the St. Mary’s Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of San Antonio. After retirement, Julia joined the San Antonio Zoological Society and volunteered as a docent at the Zoo for 14 years, and then as a docent at the Witte Museum for 2 years. Julia joined the Coker United Methodist Church in 2002 as an associate member. She joined the New Spirit Sunday School Class and was a member of the Hearts in Tune singing group.
