Born in Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Erma and Jeff Quinn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Quinn.
Maxine was a devoted military wife and traveled the world with her husband and their family while he served in the Air Force. They lived in several states as well as in Brazil and Germany before his retirement in 1962, when the family returned to his hometown of Greenville.
She was a charter member of Edwards Road Baptist in Greenville where she served in a variety of positions, both as a volunteer and as the Pastor’s secretary. She was also a charter member of St. John’s Baptist in Taylors where she served in several areas. For many years she volunteered with the auxiliary program at Greenville Memorial Hospital and served as president for two years. She was also an avid genealogist She loved her Lord and church, family, friends, animals, laughter, and playing bridge with her friends.
Maxine is survived by a son, James Allen III and his wife Julie, by two daughters, Joy Allen, and Diane Eldridge and her husband Charles, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, and one niece, Jean Character of Gadsden, Alabama. She also leaves many cherished long-time friends and a special friend and caregiver, Gloria Gaskin.
