Henry came to America when he was only 14 or 15 in 1885. He was an apprentice barber and lived in New Jersey at first. Then he went to Livingston, Montana where he worked and had his own barber shop. Henry became a citizen 1892. He married Mary Ann Walker on June 12, 1900 in Livingston. Their first child, Catherine was born in 1908 while they were still there, then they moved to Spokane before 1910 where their second daughter, Henrietta was born. Henry and Mary had two more children, Andrew and then Mary Jane in Spokane.

His granddaughter Jane Marie Collins wrote that she remembered being in his lovely home on W. Chelan Ave. in the kitchen and sitting on his lap and there was very little room because of his big belly. She said he would give her donuts and sometimes a sip of his beer while she was eating it!
