Franklin honorably and proudly served his country as a truck driver with the Army’s 2nd Armored Calvary 3rd Battalion Unit in Germany from May 1953 until April 1955, earning a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Occupation Medal (Germany). Upon discharge, and returning home to Union, he met and married the love of his life, Thelma Persinger Wilson. Together they raised four children while Franklin continued to work as a truck driver for local feed companies until a medical disability ended his career. He was of Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, older brother James, and half-siblings, Bessie, Hazel, Ruth, Nina, Marshall, Robert, and Lacy “Doc” Wislon, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49yrs, Thelma who passed away in 2005.
