He was born in Osmond, Nebraska on June 9, 1929 to the late Heinrich and Johanna (Kuhl) Gerdes. Alvin proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Mercy Hospital. He was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dona Gerdes; brothers, Leonard and Joseph Gerdes.
Alvin is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Linda Kelly and Laura and Rick Bergholz; siblings, Leroy Gerdes, Maryann Finch, Harold Gerdes (Diane); grandchildren, Quinn Kelly III, Heather Larsen (James), Shannon Colling (Phillip), Paige Bergholz and great grandchildren, Awston Kelly, Janet Kelly, Eli Kelly, Mattie Kelly, Reagan Kelly, Cole Kelly, Avery Larsen, Xavier Larsen, Arabella Colling, Brinley Colling; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Visitation will be during the hour prior to the service. Interment is in Garner Township Cemetery.
