Barbara M. Pittman, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at age 90, at her home in Lakeville, IN. Barbara began her life on January 27, 1929 as the daughter of Harry and Florence (Kitchenmaster) Abshire. She lived her entire 90 years in Lakeville, where she made life-long friends.

Barbara married Wayne Pittman in 1947 and enjoyed their 50 years of married life until Wayne’s death in August 1997. Together they raised three children and built a small family business, Pittman Plumbing and Heating. They operated the family business for 43 years until Wayne’s retirement in 1992.

Barbara was warm, witty, and wise. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, and watching sports, especially Notre Dame Football and Tom Brady and the Patriots. During her married years, she traveled throughout most of the continental United States. Her travels, plus living through the depression of the 1930s and World War II, in addition to reading hundreds of books provided her a broad understanding and appreciation of US history, government, and geography.

Barbara is survived by daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Davenport of Riverwoods, IL, son, David (Cinda) Pittman of Barrington, IL, and daughter Lynne (Stan) Filson of Plymouth, IN; four grandchildren Heather Filson, Corey Filson, Ty Pittman, and Eric Pittman; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the second love of her life, her four-legged companion, Rocky, who died in late 2018.

There will be no services or visitation. Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Barbara M. Pittman may be donated to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to the St. Joseph County Humane Society, Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
