John L. Street, age 74, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (February 3, 2019) at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. Born September 8, 1944 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late James and Mary Short Street. He spent his early life in Buchanan County prior to moving to Honaker, Virginia, where he spent most of his life. He retired from Jewell Smokeless Coal Company, where he operated a coal tipple. He was a devoted Christian and served as the assistant pastor of the Church of the Living God in Honaker, Virginia from 1987-2019. He loved playing his guitar, singing and going to church. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved helping other people. He will forever be remembered by his beautiful smile.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores Ann Mitchell Street, who passed away in 2005; brother, Harley Street; sisters-in-law, Maudie Street and Betty Street; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Mitchell, N.J. Garrison, Clyde Cole, Kenzie Justus, James Harrison “Buster” Jackson, Ronald “Red” Wilson, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clata and Pauline Mitchell, and one aunt, Viola Street.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sue Suits Street of the home; two sons, Tim Street and wife, Mary of Honaker, Virginia and Randy Street and wife, Rhonda of Rowe, Virginia; two granddaughters, Joyce Ann “Sis” Lowe and husband, Justin of Honaker, Virginia and Riley Elizabeth Street of Rowe, Virginia; two great-grandsons, Jayce Lowe and Jensen Lowe both of Honaker, Virginia; three sisters, Geneva Street Justus of Lebanon, Virginia and Gracie Garrison and Anita Justus both of Honaker, Virginia; three brothers, Arnold Street and wife, Rhonda, Jimmy Lee Street and wife, Alice, and Curtis Street and wife, Tammy; sisters-in-law, Joyce Addair and husband, Nelson, Janet Mitchell and Diane Powers all of Bristol, Virginia, Kathy Mitchell of Honaker, Virginia, Mildred “Peggy” Wilson of Abingdon, Virginia, Mary Poskas and husband, Byrchel of North Tazewell, Virginia; brothers-in-law, Curtis “Bucky” Mitchell and wife, Diane and Leonard Mitchell and wife, Tammy both of Lebanon, Virginia and Roger Mitchell of Bristol, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Street and Rev. Jackie Fields officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the Honaker Funeral Home by 10:30 am to travel in the funeral procession.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Robinson, David Street, Harm Howard, Larry Cole, Nelson Ray, Stevie Street, Ronnie Justus and Justin Lowe.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Mounts, Kenneth Harris, Bill Meadows, Terry Looney, Byrchel Poskas, Ronnie Fletcher and Curtis Street.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Wednesday.
