Linda Louise Durham (Wiley), 69, of Bradenton, Florida- Passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019. Born October 10, 1949, in Lexington, MS, she was the eldest child of Willie Wiley Sr. and Annie Louise Wiley Lockhart (Allen). Loving mother of Christopher Durham, Andrea Durham Cambron and Stephanie Durham-Rivera and dear grandmother of Sasshem and Aqmeri Cambron and Xavier and Elijah Rivera. She was dearly loved. Her smile, her kindness, generosity and warm heart will truly be missed by all. Linda moved to Rockford in 1969, where she started her life with Andrew Durham Jr. They married on December 20, 1969. During her life, Linda was very active in her community. Her passion was education, and early on, she served as the Director of Daycare at Concord Commons Recreational Center. She later worked on placing children in daycare facilities at the YWCA, she was a Head Start teacher and she owned her own home day care. One of her greatest joys was walking across the stage at Rockford College (University) and getting her degree in Education where she went on to become an elementary school teacher for many years. Later in life, she became an author of children’s books. She was the former President of American Association of University Women and the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Rockford, and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Pi Gamma Omega Chapter, as well as many other organizations. She volunteered at numerous church activities and taught Sunday school for a number of years. Linda was also a Brownie Scout Troop Leader and a Room Mother at Keith Country Day School. Linda loved sending cards and letters over the years to friends and relatives as a way to stay connected. Survivors include her son Christopher, daughters, Andrea Durham (Chinelo) Cambron and Stephanie Durham (Joshua) Rivera; grandsons, Sasshem Cambron, Xavier and Elijah Rivera and granddaughter, Aqmeri Cambron; Uncles James T Wiley and Robert Wiley, Brothers, James T Wiley, Jerry (Annette) Wiley, Willie (Anita) Wiley, Jr., Michael (Marcia) Wiley and Lawrence (Demetrica) Wiley; Sisters, Brenda Coleman, Margaret (Fred) Clark, Margaret (Charles) Zanders, Yarsby Branch, Velisa Tyson, Tina (Randall) Swindell, Teresa Powers, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Willie E. Wiley Sr. and Annie Louise Wiley Lockhart. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Miles Memorial CME Church, 1035 Michigan Ave. Rockford, IL. 61102, with a visitation at 9:00 a.m., prior to the service.
