Byron proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He served on a merchant marine fuel tanker, and following the war was on a tugboat in Tokyo Bay, raising sunken Japanese ships.
Some of his interests included fishing, camping, swimming, traveling, and playing cards.
Byron retired as a diesel and pump mechanic for Lakehead Pipeline, Superior. Prior to his pipeline work, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth in 2018; son, Jeff; and an infant granddaughter.
Byron is survived by his children: Dennis (Mary) Johnson, Buzz Johnson,, Jackie (John) Venner, Diane Johnson, and Karen (Steve) Rickstrom; daughter-in-law, Kathy Johnson; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Superior, at a later date.
