Jim was a 1955 graduate of Ottumwa High School. He served in the U.S. Army. Jim was a plumber since 1959 working at Blake Plumbing in Agency and Wingers Mechanics in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, Plumber and Steamfitters Local #33 in Des Moines.
Along with enjoying time with his family, Jim also loved to fish, play cards, going to the casino, Iowa Hawkeye sports and watching old country western shows.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce; his children, Jimmy (Laura) of Lee Summit, MO, Joe (Jessi) Guest of Mechanicsville, VA, Scott (Angie) Guest of Ottumwa, Wendy Christine Hoover of Gardner, KS and Darci (Todd) Nickel of Agency; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Ann (Ken) Jennings of Waukee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Bill Alexander officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will be present for visitation one hour prior to the service on Friday.
As Jim was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, please feel free to wear your Iowa apparel at his service. Memorials may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
