Marie Bryant Aaron, 95, of King's Grant Retirement Community, Martinsville, died Monday, May 21, 2007.
She was born in Patrick County on April 21, 1912 and was a daughter of the late Homer Orlando Bryant and Martha Magdaline Via Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Crockett Aaron; two sisters, Martha B. Presnell and Mabel Frazier; and three brothers, Curtis O. Bryant Sr., Camden Ross Bryant and Conrad King Bryant.
She was a student at the former Blue Ridge Mission School at Buffalo Ridge in Patrick County, of which her grandfather was a founder. She later attended Ridgeway and Martinsville High School, where she graduated in 1931.
She received her registered nurse's degree after attending school at Sheltering Arms in Richmond, and training and working at hospitals in Winchester and DeShon, Pa. During World War II, she served as a registered nurse with the U.S. Army. She also worked as a nurse at DuPont in Martinsville.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Martinsville and was active in the church circle. She also was active with the Red Cross and a local garden club.
Surviving are one son, Jacob C. Aaron Jr. of Hardy; one daughter, Martha R. Aaron of Martinsville; two half-brothers, David Bryant of Madison, N.C., and Donald Bryant of Henderson, N.C.; three half-sisters, Linda Marshall of Danville, Lorene Woods of North Carolina and Darlene Theilman of Florida; and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at Norris Funeral Services chapel by the Rev. Ron Mateer, Chaplain Paul Johnson and the Revs. Judy Short and Samuel K. Frazier. Burial, with military rites and flag presentation conducted by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard, was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Frazier, Camden Frazier, Julian Taylor, Richard Lawrence, Arthur Johnson and John Davis Philpott.
