Karen Marie (Thompson) Barnes of Midland passed away on February 1, 2019.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 4, 2019, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Crestview Baptist Church. There will be a graveside service at 3:00PM in Resthaven Memorial Park, Midland.

Karen was born on September 30, 1954 in Odessa, Texas to H.A. Thompson and Maxine Marie (Flack) Thompson.

She loved Jesus, her husband, her kids and grandkids, her dogs, serving at the church, volunteering in the community, and quilting.

She and her husband, Mike, enjoyed 46 years of marriage together, proudly parenting Melanie and Matt. Her little grandkids, Myron and Smith, made her heart happy beyond measure.

Karen was a follower of Jesus, a wife, a mom, a grandmother, a friend, and a diligent employee. She also loved to help others – Karen volunteered 2,323 hours at Midland Memorial Hospital, made countless pillowcases for patients on their birthdays, and served those in Midland experiencing food insecurity. She had many who called her a friend and a myriad of others who were touched through her life, her service, her generosity, and her legacy.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents H.A. Thompson and Maxine Marie (Flack) Thompson.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Michael Barnes; her daughter, Melanie Marie (Barnes) Hall, and her husband, Chris Hall; her son, Jay Matthew Barnes, and his wife, Alida Barnes; and her two grandsons, Jude Myron Barnes and Richard Smith Barnes; and her siblings Lynda Thompson and Paula Wooten.

The family would like to express their gratitude toward the nursing staff and staff doctors at Midland Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Midland, Crestview Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Alhambra, CA, dozens of other churches who have been committed to praying for Karen, and especially her friends and family who have visited, called, written, texted, and prayed.
