Phyllis Joan Norris, age 80, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society. Phyllis was born September 27, 1938 in Council Bluffs, Iowa the son of Howard and Lulu (Spencer) Pegel. She was raised and lived all of her life in Red Oak, Iowa. After high school, Phyllis worked for many years at the Powell School. She later earned her LPN certification and started working for Murphy Memorial Hospital and eventually retired from Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after many years of service. Phyllis was united in marriage to Donald Norris on December 27, 1956 and four children were born to the union: Mike, Christopher, Gail, and Teresa. Phyllis spent her whole life being a caregiver, not only at work, but also taking care of friends and family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother: Howard; sister: Helen; and children: Christopher Norris and Gail Mirts. Survivors include her children: Mike Norris and wife Chris of Red Oak, IA and Teresa Chase of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Cole Norris and wife Georgeann of Kalispell, MT; Skylar Barker of Red Oak, IA; Kyle Chase of Red Oak, IA; and Kaleb Mirts and wife Heather of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Peyton, Kyler, Blake, Ryland, and Brystol; brother: Gary Pegel of Texas; sister: Renee Pegel of Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
