RICHMOND COUNTY, VA (WAFB) - Accused mass murderer Dakota Theriot, 21, waived extradition during a hearing Friday morning in Virginia and is being sent back to Louisiana to face judgment in the deaths of five people. Theriot will return to Ascension Parish, where he faces two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his parents, Keith and Elizabeth Theriot.
After being charged there, he will go to Livingston Parish, where he is expected to be charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Billy Ernest, Summer Ernest, and Tanner Ernest. Autopsies showed they were also shot. “We know what happened here," Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said during a news conference on Jan. 29, 2019. "He killed five people. This is a monster.” He added if the district attorney moves forward with the case, the prosecution would not be opposed to seeking capital punishment.
Summer Yvette Ernest was born on November 19, 1998 to Billy Ernest, Jr. and Rhonda Champagne. She transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father on January 26, 2019. Summer was born in Hammond, Louisiana. She later moved with her family to Denham Springs, Louisiana, and graduated from Denham Springs High School in 2017. Summer was a smart, funny, beautiful young woman who had a love for people, her friends, and a passion for animals. She was an amazing daughter, loved God, and wanted to demonstrate his love by paying it forward and lending a helping hand. Summer kept a beautiful smile on her face and was ready to lift the spirits of those around her. Summer's light will continue to shine brightly through those lives that she touched. She is survived in death by her mother Rhonda Champagne, her brother Hunter Ernest, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandmothers. She was preceded in death by both grandfathers, Billy Ernest, Sr. and Ronald Champagne, Jr. Visitation will be held at Abundant Life Church in Denham Springs, LA on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 9 a.m. until Funeral Service at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
