LaRue - Gary Lee Butler passed away on January 29, 2019. He was born in LaRue, Ohio to Lowell and Wanda (Bushatz) Butler on April 15, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, and his brother, Steve Butler.

Gary graduated from Elgin High School in 1965 and was quite an athlete in his day. He served in the Army in Vietnam as well as the Navy from 1966-1993, primarily as an air traffic controller. He was briefly in the Ohio State Highway Patrol and at one time, he was also the owner of the Green Candle bar in LaRue. After his naval retirement, he also served as a security officer at Marion General Hospital.

Gary fell in love and married his wife, Sharon (Cobb) Butler, who survives. On the day of his passing, they were married for forty-seven interesting years. Gary is also survived by his son, Gary S. (Kristi) Butler of Marion, Wendi (Ryan) Burnworth of Raymond, Ohio and Jesse (Alana) Butler of Kenton, Ohio. He also had six wonderful grandchildren, who kept him entertained through the years: Kendra and Andrew Thibaut, Gage Johnson, Brynn & Brayla Butler, and Ainsley Butler. Gary was also survived by his brother, John of Bowling Green, Kentucky, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a large family of in-laws.

He was larger than life in many ways and for that, we loved him dearly and we will miss him always.

The family would like to thank the staff of Marion General Hospital, Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, and Lima Memorial Hospital for their care during the past few years.

No formal services will be held. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Gary's life together on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 12pm to 4pm at 11652 Township Road 205, Kenton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Marion Community Foundation, designated for the LaRue Alumni Association Scholarship.
