Petter Evensen Simon was born to Even Olsen Tranby Eie and Martha Helgesdatter on September 23, 1849, on the farm Marigaard in Norderhov, a town in the city of Ringerike, in Buskerud County, Norway. It is in Norderhov, where he was baptized in 1849, where he remained until 1865 with his mother, and where he emigrated from in 1870. Petter, a passenger of the Steamship (SS) Albion, emigrated from Norderhov to Oslo (fmr Christiana) and was set to arrive the same month in Kristiansand, Norway. Although Petter was a confirmed passenger on the SS Albion, he appeared to have missed his connection onto the SS Rising Star, which was to arrive in New York, USA. Instead, Petter appeared on the SS Colorado. While it remains unclear where Petter was from 1870 to 1883, Petter likely met and married his wife Mattie Fredriksdatter Simon, just shortly after her naturalization in 1882, likely in 1883. During this time, Petter Evensen also adopted the family name Simon. In the same year, Petter and Mattie gave birth to their only son Edmund Simon in the Dakota Territory. Starting in 1885, Family Simon resided in Minnesota and baptized Edmund at the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in 1889. In 1895, Petter, now a Farm Laborer, and Mattie, a Dressmaker, still resided in Minnesota, where the married couple confirmed Edmund at the Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in 1900. In 1900, Mattie and Petter, who had picked up his long-term profession as a Shoemaker, lived now without Edmund Simon, who likely moved in with his uncle Martin Olsen Poulson. Edmund may have moved away due to poorness within the Family, likely leading to Mattie leaving in 1902. Now on his own, from 1905 until 1920, Petter remained a Shoemaker (Cobbler). Although unclear, Petter and Mattie reappear together in a Tampa City Directory, in the same house, on 1005 North A, as their son Edmund, with his wife in 1921. Last, on May 17, 1922, the Fergus Falls Weekly Norwegian language newspaper in Minnesota, published a section about P. E. Simon from Dalton, MN, and his greeting to the people from Ringerike in Norway. Petter states that his old Norwegian name is Petter Evensen Hagastuen, Marigaardseie. From 1926 until his death on May 30, 1932, and his burial at the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Petter resided in the Ebenezer Home for the aged and poor on 2545 Portland Ave S, in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota.
