Johanna Dembach, born Bock, went to be with those who came before while in the embrace of her son, Patrick, and daughter, Iris and son-in-law Robert. On Thursday, January 31, 2019 Mom's 92 years were an incredible journey.

Born in Nurnberg, Germany, on January 22, 1927, the daughter of a minister and a homemaker, our mom lived through some of the worst times and conditions imaginable. An iron will, incredible faith and family allowed her to survive hardship and loss many will never know.

In 1952 a young soldier of German descent, Alfred, came into her life and two years later, in May of 1954, they were married by her father in Illesheim, Germany. Later that same year mom found herself in America working side by side with her new husband physically clearing land and building a house that would be a home. Mom became "mom" in 1955 and again in 1958 and reared her two children as a stay-at-home mom. As the years unfolded, she pursued her passion and talent as a piano teacher and bookkeeper. Mom loved plants and flowers, gardening, travel and the furry companions that came and went throughout life.

Family ties to Fredericksburg, Texas, dating to the early 1900's, brought her home to Texas for the last 45 years of her life. Mom enjoyed the country life in Fredericksburg and worked in a local jewelry store and a bridal shop. After 52 years of marriage, mom began yet another journey in life without our dad. It was in these last 13 years alone that her greatest of struggles began and ultimately took her from us. As the years passed, Lewy Body Dementia was the thief that robbed her of all that she loved: Vision, Mind and body. As we sat with mom in her last moments, the mom that we knew had long ago left us. The last words she heard were a prayer offered at her bedside and the burden was lifted in that moment. All that was left to say was we love you.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be immediately thereafter with internment in Greenwood Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Texas that same afternoon.

We ask that any memorial considerations be made to Mesa Springs Health Care Facility, Hospice of the Big country or the charity of choice.
