James Edward “Jim” Ehlers, age 86, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society. Jim was born December 1, 1932 in Paullina, Iowa, the son of Louis and Ella Marie (Stzuka) Ehlers. He graduated from Paullina High School in 1950 and attended mechanic school in Omaha, Nebraska. Jim was united in marriage to Maggie Schnoes on February 19, 1955 in Alton, Iowa. They lived in Paullina where Jim worked as a mechanic and drove a rendering truck until moving to Red Oak, Iowa, in 1963. He worked for Fox and Finley Chevrolet as a mechanic and later as service manager. Jim later farmed with Clyde Jones and Arnold Freeman as well as operating Ehlers Auto Repair and Southwest Iowa Shooters Supply. Jim never really retired. In his later years, he worked for Big A Auto Parts, Brockshus Ag Repair, and planted seed for Pheasants Forever. Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Isaac Walton League. In his younger years he was quite active with the Boy Scouts of America.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and sisters: Ardy Van Buskirk and Crystal Brauer. Survivors include his wife: Maggie Ehlers of Red Oak, IA; children: Gina Schultz and husband Rick of Paullina, IA; Jim Ehlers and wife Nancy of Rogers, AR; Bill Ehlers and wife Pam of Red Oak, IA; Lisa Ehlers of Ft. Collins, CO; and John Ehlers and wife Linda of Clarinda, IA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
There will be no service at this time.
