Alfred Nielsen Jr.
Alfred A. Nielsen Jr., 5036 NE Sumner St., died Friday in a local hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 47.
A lifelong Portland resident, he was born Oct. 7, 1921. He was graduated from Pacific University at Stockton, Calif. He also studied at Oregon State University. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves during World War II and in Korea.
Mr. Nielsen was a carpenter and was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 583. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was active for many years in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in Portland.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; his mother, Martha; two sons, Thomas and Brian, all of Portland; a brother, Richard of Vancouver, Wash., and a sister, Elaine Cornelius, of Portland.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Caldwell's Colonial Mortuary with private entombment at Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
