James Howard TULLIS
James Howard Tullis of Bellevue, WA, died on April 5, 2010. He was 83 years old. James was born December 30, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to John and Louise Tullis as their only child. As a young boy he was raised in Albany, Minnesota. James was very close to his maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Tacoma, WA. James graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA. James served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He was proud that he fought for his country and was honorably discharged in June 1947. James was employed for 47 years with the Boeing Company. He was an inspector in quality control and supervisor for "AOG" (Airplane on Ground) repairs. He was a lifetime member of the Issaquah Gun Club and a long term member of the NRA. James was also a member of St. Louise Catholic Church, where he served as a lectern. Upon retirement James was a docent for the Boeing Museum of Flight and helped restore the B-17. He also volunteered for many years with the King County Elections Board. James participated in many hobbies and interests including hunting, fishing, building model airplanes and playing cards - but he most enjoyed spending time with his family. James is survived by his son Michael (wife Sheri) Tullis of Redmond, WA, son David (wife Renee) Tullis of Eatonville, WA and daughter Colleen (husband Ted) Volberding of Kirkland, WA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Brian Vrtis, Jason Vrtis, Kari Wolford, Matthew Tullis, Ashley Tullis, Christi Meats, John Tullis, Evan Tullis, Amy Greaves, Emily Cooper, Molly Perkins, Natalie Volberding and four great grandchildren: Joseph Meats, Ella Greaves, Jack Vrtis and Jillian Wolford. James was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Linda Vrtis. He will be missed by many friends and extended family. A private memorial mass was held at St. Louise Catholic Church, Bellevue, WA. A committal service with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps followed at Mountain View Cemetery, Lakewood, WA. Remembrances in James' name preferred to the Alzheimer's Association, 100 West Harrison St., North Tower Suite 200, Seattle, WA 98119.
