George Emmett Hazelwood III (Pete), 69, a native and lifelong resident of Newport News, passed away January 27, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Pete graduated from Warwick High School and Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. He retired in 2012 after 44 years in management at Newport News Shipbuilding, including LNG's, CGN's, CVN's, and "Tiger Team.

"Early years of his life were spent sailing his "505" in Bermuda, California, and the East Coast.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, George E. Hazelwood, Jr. and Regina Adams Hazelwood, and his brother, Robert Hazelwood.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; two daughters, Elizabeth Roerink (Justin) and Lindsey Hazelwood; two grandchildren, Ethan and Eli Roerink; three sisters, Mary Bateman (Bert), Jane Cooper, and Anne Fortson (David); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News.
