Matilda Freeman Gale was the second wife of George Burcher Gale whom she married on March 29, 1828 in St. Luke's Church in Chelsea, England. Together they had nine children Including two that died as infants one of whom was named Adeona, a name which they later christened a second daughter who was tragically killed along with her three sisters in a Philadelphia theater fire in September 1861.
Another daughter was Augusta, who is noted as being 13-years old in 1851. Matilda took a keen interest in her husband's aeronautic (balloonist) activities and became an accomplished ballonist in her own right.
