ROCK SPRINGS — Phillip Warren Richards, 80, of Rock Springs passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, in Rock Springs.

Phil was born in Oklahoma to Opal and Herman Richards on Sept. 4, 1938, and grew up in Santa Rosa, California, and graduated from Santa Rosa High School.

He then spent four years in the Air Force. After his discharge, he completed his bachelor degree in administration at San Francisco State University.

He married Kay Hammond in 1964. They had one child, Keith, before moving to Ely, Nevada, where he took a job with the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM soon took them to Salmon, Idaho, where he spent eight years before divorcing in 1976.

In 1978, he moved to Rock Springs. In 1981, Phil left the BLM to follow his passion of hunting and gun collecting including a four-week hunt in Africa.

Phil’s passion was meeting people, buying, selling and trading guns at gun shows within a large radius of Wyoming. He also enjoyed watching the San Francisco Giants and 49ers and Wyoming Cowboys. He loved his Harley. In the mid 2000s and up, he took many trips to Sturgis, South Dakota, and rode with his son in California while visiting, where he even drag raced his Harley on occasion.

Phil was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He is survived by his sister Janelle Adamson; son Keith; daughter-in-law Stacey; and their daughter Kimberley Gregory and husband, Sean.

Memorials may be emailed to Keith at [email protected], where he will be compiling a list for a future celebration of life for Phil in the coming months in Rock Springs.

The family of Keith Richards wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Tom Liggett, Bob and Rosalie Adams, and many other close friends in the Rock Springs area.
