Giles P. (Van) Vandeveer, 75, Crescent, died Wednesday at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was a patient there since December.

Mr. Vandeveer had no living relatives, but had 'batched' over 31 years with friend Frank (Shorty) Baker. The two resided the past 20 years at Crescent.

The two men met in the Kansas oil fields and had been together since. Mr. Vandeveer went to Crescent with his friend looking for work, liked the vicinity and settled down there.

Through the years Mr. Vandeveer had worked as a farmer most of his life, followed the harvest, and tried his hand at logging.

He was a native of Casey.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Meyer Chapel. Philip T. Durham, pastor of First Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be at the Crescent Cemetery.
